As auditors, we collect and analyze a lot of information in an attempt to build as complete an understanding of a subject as possible before coming to any conclusions. There is an endless amount of information to absorb, however, so learning how to hang on to what’s important and discard the rest is a great skill to learn.

Maria Konnikova discusses below how building expertise in a subject and honing our judgment (with many, many hours of practice) is aided by being more particular about what information we choose to retain and how we use that information.
